Pondering "dob"

As you can probably guess, we made it out today to cast our votes. Chloe didn't get to vote, but she thought the stickers were pretty cool. Since nothing else of interest really happened today I thought that I might take the time to share a couple of stories with you.

Chloe has really started taking off with her vocabulary lately -- finally! However, it's not always clear what she's trying to tell us. As we were sitting at the dinner table on Saturday she was struck with the urgent need to scream "dob" over and over again. I couldn't seem to come up with the word she was trying to say. She didn't get frustrated with us. She just seemed to think that we couldn't hear her. So she would scream it again as she tilted her head toward one of us. Since Saturday her new word at mealtimes has been "nap", which doesn't really mean nap. Again, we're at a loss. But our ever patient girl just looks at us with pity when we can't understand her language.

Chloe has really taken to looking at the hymnal at church. She is really very gentle with the book, but the pages are quite thin. Rather than having a brand-new LSB torn, we let her look at one of the TLH's that's in bad shape already. She loves to turn to a hymn and "sing" with the congregation and even tries to stand and hold the hymnal at the appropriate times. Recently we learned that she knows what music looks like on paper, outside of the hymnal context. We have a stack of scrap paper in our home office. Chloe oftens grabs a piece of paper from this pile so she can scribble. One day she was scribbling on one page after another until she found an old piece of sheet music. She put the pencil down and walked around the room singing to the music. She absolutely refused to draw on the back side of the music.

Our daughter amazes me so often. Right now she is reading a book to me while I type. She is turning the pages, reading the words to me, and pointing at the pictures to explain them. I admit that there are times I feel I need a break from motherhood, but praise be to God for all the wonderful times of amazement and joy!

I will wait patiently to find out the meaning to "dob"! Keep us posted if you discover you are fluent in Chloeese! Is that how one would spell that?

Cute stories! I love the joy Ben gets at worship. He really does get joy out of the church service! Just think, we could be at a church that send their kids out for "the kids services" and we would miss all those wonderful moments. Would Chloe be holding her hymnal and "participating" in worship? Would she get to realize that Jesus is there in His gifts for her too, not just mommy and daddy? Praise be to God for the mothers and fathers who are teaching their child the importance of the Divine Service!

Maybe I just need to address this in my own blog....I'll go and do that. Thanks for sharing your story!

How are you feeling?
