Thanksgiving

The original plan for Thanksgiving was to drive to my parents’ house after the church service Thursday morning and drive home Saturday late afternoon or early evening. On Sunday of that week I got a phone call from Mom saying that Aunt Donna had died. The new plans were up in the air, but I wasn’t really expecting to be having Thanksgiving dinner in Illinois. As it turned out, the funeral was Saturday. Mom and Dad left for Michigan on Friday. My family still met in Illinois to celebrate Thanksgiving together. It ended up being a very short trip for us, but well worth the drive.

Chloe really enjoyed her third Thanksgiving. She was very excited every time she saw a turkey. She ate a little turkey, but not much. Her favorite food was the Jell-o with oranges that Grandma made especially for her. Maybe the pumpkin pie tied for her favorite food. Her favorite part of the day was getting to help Grandma make the stuffing.

First Grandma showed her how to stir it. Notice the look of intense concentration.

Then she was able to do it herself. I should have got a picture of all the stuffing that ended up on the counter!

Poor Julia didn’t see anything special about Thanksgiving, of course. She ate the same old foods she always gets, but I did make sure she had some pumpkin. At least she had something that matched our meal. She did end up with a special treat -- Cool Whip!

“Hey, that was pretty good stuff.”

“I want more!!”

We did bring home a little turkey from Mom and Dad’s house. It was only enough to make 2 ½ meals worth of sandwiches, but it was good nonetheless. Wish we would have had room for all of those yummy leftovers!
