Nine months

Our baby is nine months old today. Time has flown! Julia is becoming quite a content baby. The past couple weeks have been very different as she has become a bit more independent. She is content to entertain herself for longer periods of time. She lets other people hold her when I am in the same room (not all the time, but much more than in the past). She loves it when Chloe plays with her; the two of them can really get a gigglefest started. She is also proud to have 6 teeth in her mouth -- two on bottom and four on top. It's getting harder to think of her as a baby anymore.

Today she had her checkup with the doctor, and we've stumbled upon a concern. When she was weighed three months ago she was 17 pounds 4 ounces. Today's weight was only 16 pounds 11 ounces. The doctor says a huge number of things could be the cause. The first step is to figure out what her daily caloric intake is. The situation could be as simple as not eating enough. For the next four days I have to carefully measure out all the food I give her so I can figure out the number of calories she's getting. It won't give us all the information we need since she's still nursing, but it gives us a starting point. The doctor said her weight "raises a red flag, but it's not a horrible situation." The rest of the checkup was perfectly fine, and we take comfort in the fact that she's generally a happy baby. If something is wrong, she's definitely not bothered by it. I'll turn in the food diary on Monday and wait for the doctor to give us a call.

Hello Rebekah! Your girls sure are growing! They're beautiful! I really enjoy reading your blog and keeping up with you guys. Our lives seem to be a bit similar! I can't believe our little one will be 5 months in another week! Hope things go well with Julia. Merry Christmas!

I wonder if Julia's calorie intake is too low because it's a lot of veggies. Maybe it's time to give her more from the grain foods. Mashed potatoes too. If I ate a ratio of veggies compared to starches as Julia does, I bet I would lose weight too. Will be waiting to hear what the Dr says and hope it's nothing serious
