I'm sorry I haven't been adding anything fun or interesting in a timely manner. I'm having a hard time bringing myself to share any news around here. Somehow Aaron went from being my easiest baby to my most challenging baby.
He still has a hard time sleeping when he's not being held, despite all our efforts to fix this problem. Every once in a while he will tease me and give me a good two-hour nap in his bed. Those naps are few and far between. Usually he's awake within 20 minutes of when I put him down. There are days that he only takes three 20-minute naps before supper. Let me tell you, he's no fun to deal with on those days (either am I!). By then we give up and hold him for a good long nap in hopes he'll be able to sleep better that night.
Ah, nighttime. Again, occasionally he teases me and sleeps for about 2 1/2 or 3 hours for the first stretch of night. I get excited and think we're making progress. Then he doesn't have another night like that for a week or so. A more typical night at this point consists of sleep for 30 minutes or an hour, awake, sleep for 30 minutes, back up again, sleep for 30 minutes, awake again... repeat until 4:30 or 5:00 when we give up and somebody sleeps with him on the couch or lets him sleep in the swing. He knows it's nighttime. When I pick him up in the middle of the night, he immediately lies his head down on my shoulder and goes right back to sleep. He only eats once in the night. He just can't stand to be alone.
His sleep habits are very similar to what Julia's were. So how is he acting harder? He is a mommy's boy. Daddy is okay for playing at just the right times. There are other times that he tolerates time with daddy. But overall, he just wants to be with me. Remember how I said he really only sleeps while somebody's holding him during the day? My breaks are few and far between.
I should end on a high note. One thing he's been doing lately that I simply love: He will be happily eating away, stop, look up at me to give a huge smile, and go right back to eating. He can be such a sweet boy.

Ugg and yuk. Clara was not a good sleeper. She was STILL getting up once or twice a night until GERHARDT was 2 months old. I thought it was so unfair! But I guess like most things "this too shall pass"....you hope!
Isn't it amazing that one little smile can melt your heart? Suddenly all the bad things don't seem so bad. :)
