Random Stories

I received a verbal “shame on you” yesterday while on the phone with my mom. She was referring to the fact that she checks the blog every day, and I haven’t been updating enough. It’s not that I don’t intend to post. In fact, nearly everyday either Kevin or I will note something being good blog material. However, most of my entries since Julia has been born have been written in the middle of the night. Even if you see a post that has a time stamp mid-afternoon, chances are I wrote it in the middle of the night and didn’t get to adding pictures and posting it until daylight. I’m just not always in the mood to write at 3:30 in the morning. Shame on me? You’re lucky I’ve written at all after Julia’s birth announcement. With that being said, here are a couple of new stories for you:

Julia has found her favorite location in our house, and it’s probably not where you might guess. She LOVES the changing table. I would understand if we had a mobile hanging there, but we don’t. it’s just a plain changing table that lives by the steps. Almost immediately upon being placed on the table she will give huge smiles for the longest time. But the smiles only come while she has her head turned toward the steps. If she faces us, there are no smiles. We can’t figure it out. She does it quite consistently; it’s so much fun to watch. Here are some pictures from the changing table. They aren’t perfect; trying to catch a baby’s smile on camera is like trying to catch a good night’s sleep with a baby. And yes, they are a bit blurry. I was standing on the steps leaning over the banister to take the pictures.

I can’t remember if I wrote about Chloe’s baby doll. If I did, please pardon the repetition. We gave Chloe a doll when she came to see me in the hospital. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. She quickly shoved it back into the bag and backed away as if it were going to bite her. I tried leaving it out in the living room for awhile once we got home, but she continued to avoid it. So we put it away for awhile. I recently pulled it back out to see if she had changed her mind about the doll. Chloe took to it right away! Now she takes care of her baby while I take care of Julia. She likes to mimic what Julia is doing. At a yard sale last summer Mom found a very cheap highchair for a doll. Several months ago I found a very cheap stroller at a secondhand store. Earlier in the week I made a bed for the doll out of a box. The baby is well supplied. Sometimes while mimicking Julia, Chloe has an identity crisis; see the picture below.

Chloe saw that Julia was having tummy time. So she was a good mommy and gave her baby tummy time as well. I guess she couldn’t make up her mind about whether she’s a mommy or a baby. She decided to play it safe and put herself down for tummy time.

Chloe and “my baby” -- the baby’s name.
