Stairs and Prayers

It’s funny how I go through the day to day routine with the girls, hardly noticing the little changes that are happening. Then all of a sudden one day it hits me how much they have changed. Yesterday was one of those days.

I had to take a picture of our stairs for those of you who haven't seen our house. It will make the story easier to understand. The bottom of the picture is two steps leading up from our hallway. The steps on the left go to the second floor. The dark corner in the upper right is the kitchen. There are two steps on that side just like the ones you can see here.

Julia absolutely loves to stand at the bottom of the stairs, holding on at the top of the bottom two steps. It’s the perfect height for her. It was also a wonderful break for me. If I was attending to Chloe and the potty chair, Julia was perfectly content just standing at the steps. I didn’t have to worry about her because she never left that spot. Then she surprised us. I was in the kitchen cooking supper, and Kevin was watching the girls for me. Julia had crawled into the hallway to go stand by the steps; Kevin was right behind her. I happened to look over at her just in time to see her climb up onto the first step! As Kevin and I were marveling over this accomplishment, she climbed to the second step and started crawling toward me, ready to crawl down the steps on the other side of the landing. I don’t know exactly how old Chloe was when she started climbing stairs, but I know it wasn’t at 7 months! Now we’ll have to put the baby gate up and find a new fun safe place for Julia. Good luck to us!

Chloe awed me earlier in the day yesterday. After lunch Kevin took Julia outside for a little bit since it was such a beautiful day (mid-70’s). After going outside and feeling the lovely temperature for myself, I decided we should all be outside. I told Chloe to go get her shoes so we could play outside. She looked at me and said, “No, I pray first.” I told her she could pray anytime she wanted. So the conversation went something like this:

Chloe: Thank you God.
Me: What are you thanking God for?
Chloe: Thank you God for Daddy and Sister.
Me: What about Mommy?
Chloe: And Mommy too.

Then while I put her shoes on and tied them, she folded her hands and said, “Thank you God for Daddy. Amen. And Mommy. Amen. And Sister. Amen.” She’s growing up really fast, and it’s times like this that she just makes my heart melt.
